Community Sniffing

Thank you for assisting in this process. Archiving the work of Turtle WoW is a community effort and we encourage you to use this tool for any purpose you would like including scraping for your own or other server's use.

We are offering in-game OctoTokens for each usable upload that an account provides us. You can find a chart of what we have, what we need, and the rewards for each instance at the bottom of this page.

This scraper is rather brittle as there are a lot of moving parts and we are on a tight deadline to scrape what we can before the servers shut down. As a result of that you must follow the following instructions precisely. If you do have any issues with it please post in the forums where a technical member of the team will get back to you asap so that all can see the resolution.

Step 1: Download the scraper here

Step 2: Run the scraper on your computer

There is a non-zero chance the network auto-pick selects the wrong network. If you run into issues where you are capturing 0 packets please manually select your network.

Step 3: Start your session

If you want your OctoTokens credited to your account, you must sign in through the WoWScraper.exe client. Then you can click start recording.

Step 4: Launch Turtle WoW

Launch Turtle WoW through the Turtle WoW launcher. Your session should now detect your WoW.exe running and log the key that is needed to decrypt the packets.

Step 5: Log in and run a dungeon we need

Log into your character and run a dungeon that we need! For loot logging (not high priority, we are grabbing from database also) it will only record if you see the loot window on your character.

Step 6: End your recording session

Once your instance is completed (final boss cleared and looted plus a 30-second window afterwards) you may end your recording session and upload the file. You can start a new recording session without restarting your WoW client.

Step 7: Click the "Upload" button in the sniffer client

Step 8: Keep your sniffer up to date

New versions of the sniffer are pushed on this page. Please check your versions daily to see if you need to upgrade.

Current token rewards

Tokens shown are what a single GOOD-quality capture would earn right now. Counts go up as players submit captures; rewards taper down as we approach our coverage target for each instance.
